WHAT ARE TYPES OF WORK SCHEDULES IN A CORPORATE JOB

Many people say that "Shift work is a Personal Preference", or " Shift work is the only option left" because either you choose your career option, not by yourself, or there was a lack of knowledge about your career, you are forced by your society and parental pressures and many other factors due to which you later realized that this career option is not for you, but now the question is "What you will do ?"

You must be thinking at this stage - Either you need to start from the very beginning, or you need to do the same thing for the rest of your life? - The decision is yours and if you want to know about the types of work schedules in a corporate job then keep reading.

So now let's know about different types of working schedule or types of shifts for employees.

GENERAL SHIFT JOB | FIXED SHIFT

One of the best forms of work schedules in a corporate job is "General Shift Job" and this is what we expect in our life.  As a student we expect our life to be good and progressive to get a good job after our studies to fulfill our life dreams and earn money. If you are lucky enough to choose the right career path then you will be doing a general shift job that will offer you a fixed routine within general shift timings that is a traditional 9 to 6 job.

In India, there are certain types of jobs in which you may or may not get a high salary but you will find yourself comfortably working and will be able to follow a sustainable career path like few government jobs, Human Resources, Administration, Banks etc.

Also, it's possible that if you are working in a domestic process then you might enjoy all the national holidays and Festivals as holidays.

If you want to do a job for the lifetime till retirement then search and apply for a General Shift Jobs.

ROTATIONAL SHIFTS

Typically If you choose your career as Engineering or Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and want to start your career in the IT industry then you may be hired for a job role under rotational shifts,

Moreover, if you are hired by a Multi-National Company for an international process, for example, US shift based, UK shift based or any other nationality, providing support from your home country then you may be required to either sync your work timings in accordance with the time zone of your "Process " like United States time zone.

By here we mean that we have to follow the working hours here in India according to the working hours of the United States, for example, if "On-Site" starts at 9 am CST and the day ends at 6 pm CST then if you convert that time in Indian time zone then here everyday you may report to the office at 8:30pm in the evening till 5:30 am next day morning.

and suppose your shift starts late in the evening covering the midnight till morning 8:00 am or above is known as "Graveyard Shift"

or otherwise you may be hired for a complete 24*7 shift where the staff should be available serving 24 hours without any leave but that doesn't mean you have to work 24*7 all alone.!

Here you might have a few of your colleagues at the same level working in the rotational shift and once your shift is over you need to hand over the work to the next shift.

For example, if you work from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm in the evening then you need to hand over your work before leaving to the next shift that might start from 2:30 pm to 12:00 am and so on.

Here every month, week or even every your shift might change and the shift assigned to you is decided in advanced either by your reporting manager or shift lead.

Usually, these types of work shifts are mostly followed by the "call centers" and few B2B business processes in the Multinational Companies but you need to be very careful before turning up to this career option as these shift work schedules will majorly impact your health.

SPLIT SHIFTS

If you are hired for a role in which you need to follow the split shifts then you may be required to work multiple times in a day, that could be twice or more different times each day. It completely depends on which job role you are hired for or job requirements. The example of the Split shift worker is let's say a "School Bus Drivers", who pick up children for schools in the morning and after the school is over drop those children to their home stops.

Another example of Split Shifts if you are required to report to the office for the first half and perform the remaining work from home.

Also, a trainer or coach might be required to work in the split shifts, for example, a gym trainer he reports to the gym in the morning takes the break in the middle and again goes to the gym in the evening to coach fitness,

In split shifts, you are required to take breaks in the middle and perform the rest of your work in another shift of the same day.

NO SCHEDULE + OVERTIME + ON CALL

If you are in an organization in which your type of job is always critical like "Doctors in Emergency ward", " Network Support Engineers" etc, then you may or may not have a fixed routine to your job because the work is always critical.

Also, there are many types of jobs in which you enter time is fixed but your exit time is not fixed and you might be required to do overtime to complete your daily tasks. That means even if your job for a day should over at 6:00 pm in the evening but even then you may be required to exceed your job timings for a few hours after your end timings.

Moreover, in case of an emergency or critical situation, you could be called to the job any time during a day on demand.

IRREGULAR SHIFTS

There are job roles that require you to work in irregular shifts, in which your reporting times and duration of your shifts are different every day, in which there is no fixed pattern for your everyday job.

If your work routine is irregular shifts, then you may not work for full-time hours a day, but a less number of hours to perform work more effectively as per the demand of the employer.

For example, if you are working in a sales profile job then you may be required to work in irregular shifts for example, on Monday you may be required to work 10 am to 5 pm on day one, and the next day you may be required to work at 9 am to 4 pm.

FLEXIBLE SHIFTS

One another existing types of work shift are flexible shifts, so now let's get to know more about it here ;

If you are aligned in the flexible shift job role, then it might be possible that you need to report to office as per the specified reporting time within the work core hours but within the rest of the hours, the employee works according to his/her preference.

If your working hours are flexible then even if you arrive late in the office even then it may not affect your performance records, but at the same time, it might require approval from the higher authority like managers.

For example, if a company specifies the core working hours to be 10:30 am to 3:30 pm from Monday to Friday then the employees will be free to work the rest of their hours according to their own preference.

So these are some of the basic types of work schedule examples that people are living in their daily lives, Our goal was to inform about different types of work schedules is because many people don't know about it and they turn up as misfits for their job profile in which they got hired, Here you could choose which job profile you should prepare for that will benefit you to sustain your job so that you achieve success in life.
